Spark: Grades K-2
Career Curiosity Leveraging Literacy
Spark is Adopt A Class' innovative literacy-based mentoring program for students in Kindergarten - 2nd grade. Through monthly mentorship sessions with caring adult volunteers, we introduce young learners to a diverse world of careers and industries.
how it works
Once a month, mentors and students explore different professions like construction, public safety, banking, and science. Adopt A Class provides curriculum-related books to use in mentor sessions, many written by local authors! To deepen the impact, mentors lead hands-on activities that introduce career concepts and build transferable life skills such as:
Listening
Teamwork
Self-confidence
Critical thinking
WHY IT MATTERS
This unique literacy-based approach lays a foundational understanding of career possibilities. The Spark program helps children see careers all around them, igniting curiosity and empowering them to envision their future selves.
In addition to monthly mentoring sessions, AAC provides over 500 K-2nd grade students with Career-Connected Field Trips including local author visits and outings to local arts and cultural institutions.
