Students will watch a video read-aloud of The House That She Built to explore the diverse careers in the skilled trades and construction industry while learning how specialized professionals work together to build a home. Then in part two, they will apply their learning by participating in a whole-group simulation that demonstrates the teamwork, timing, and sequence required on a real-world construction site.
Lesson: Rocket Says Look Up!
Students will watch a video read-aloud of Rocket Says Look Up! to explore careers in space science and astronomy while learning about objects in the night sky and the challenges scientists face. Then in part two, they will apply their understanding by acting as Lunar Operations Directors to map the four primary phases of the moon and navigate space missions based on changing lunar light levels.

Students will watch a video read-aloud of Nya The Great and Her Visit to the Firehouse to explore fire safety and the roles of emergency workers while learning about essential fire safety equipment. Then in part two, they will apply their learning by exploring the careers of firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and 911 dispatchers through an interactive career-matching game and create a fire safety action plan to take home.

Students will watch a video read-aloud of Louie’s Little Legs and The Magic of Kindness to explore empathy by identifying characters' feelings through situational and physical clues and connecting those emotions to acts of kindness. Then, they will apply their learning by acting as Community Wellness Planners to design kindness actions that support their school, home, and neighborhood communities.

Students will watch a video read-aloud of Brown Hands, Black Schools to explore the history of civil rights, community leadership, and education while learning about the role of HBCUs in preparing Black educators and professionals. Then in part two, they will apply their learning by working in specialized campus committees to design an HBCU campus tour that highlights academics, campus life, or traditions.

Students will watch a video read-aloud of Detective Finley's Big Money Mystery to explore the fundamentals of money management by learning about earning, spending, saving, and giving. Then in part two, they will apply their learning by acting as Financial Advisors to make decisions about real-world financial scenarios.

Students will watch a video read-aloud of Computer Decoder: Dorothy Vaughan, Computer Scientist to explore the history of computing and space exploration while learning how mathematical thinking evolved into computer coding. Then in part two, they will apply their learning by acting as "NASA Mainframe Computers" to follow coding commands, identify programming bugs, and practice executing instructions exactly as written.

Students will watch a video read-aloud of I Didn’t Win to explore how to handle disappointment by developing a growth mindset and practicing perseverance. Then, they will apply their learning by acting as Goal Designers to create a "Perseverance Ribbon" that outlines a personal goal and the steps needed to achieve it.
